Recently I have listened to podcasts that talked about techniolgy I grew up with: Nitewndendo NES, VHS, MS DOS, etc. Hinesight is 20/20? They pointed out stuff that lead to better inovations. Some of which is still popular today. It was all there from the bvegining. I only took intrest in a part of it. Usualy the surface: what games could I play, what moviwes could I watch...

Surveying the technological landscape, I ask myself where is the future? Or better yet, what's out there already that will lead to better stuff? Where is the world going?

Somethings, just come out of left field, but through iterations of new products can leave that needed clue. What is it and how can I captolize on it?

iPad, Nook and Fire!!!

While I was at this mystical shop that sold physical books, I was able
to touch the Nook for the first time.

I thought the current date was earlier than what I thought them this
new Nook was supposed to ship, but there it was... The "old" Nook
Color! D'oh.

I thought it kind of neat. I hope the Kindle Fire will be a good gift
for my Acting Financial advisor/ Tax prepareor/ Property Manager/ etc.

Anyway, some kid who was also looking over the Nooks and commented on
the Color with a question.

"So it is like the iPad?"

"No." I responded. "It's much better than that."

Zero Day: books and stuff

So, the other day I was at one of those stores that sold books. I mean
actual books with paper pages!

In the future, they will need some way to replicate the new book
smell. If not, oh well. I'll be one of those old farts that talk about
how things were back in the day.

Anyway, I noticed David Baldacci has a new book out called Zero Day.
It is not to be confused with the Mark E. Russinovich book by the same
name -- which also just came out and needs to come to Audible.

So in my rather passive interest in cryptography, I created a simple project and plan to soon make it available on my site as a web page. You can download the zip file of the Windows Form project here. (Requires Visual Studio 2010).

I got excited as I listened to one of my favorite podcasts: TechStuff from the How Stuff works website. It was on the German WWII cipher called the Enigma. It is of great historical interest. I had to listen to this particular episode twice to catch the name of the modified Polyalphabetic Substitution Cipher they used.

I had to look up the Vigenère cipher to understand how to decrypt messages.

The podcast also refereed to this online crypto museum of which I have not been able to thoroughly check out.

Yesterday I saw students pan handling for money to pay for their
education. I thought how curios it all was.

Why did they do it right outside the metro stop next to a University.
I supposed half of the people passing by are probably students as
well. Might have had more success going one stop away.

Maybe not. People might think they were just crazy or homeless.
Desperate to try anything.

"It's for a good cause." one young lady shouted. I doubted it, but
also thought my small donation would go just as far as my donations to
public service (police and fire fighter ) and military collections.

I thought: How do I know you haven't blown through what money you had
allocated to aimlessly feed the hungry education business. Assuming
you were that fortunate at having the funds from the start.

They shouted more stuff that got me thinking. Is this for real or some
kind of study? At length, I didn't donate.

A day later I found myself rationalizing why my donation would not
have made a difference. The country has bigger problems and is
probably the cause of poor education of these students.
