The Bing image for Halloween is very appropriate. "It is another animated image of lightening and a gargoyle."

Does anybody have an apple peeler/de-core device that I could barrow?

Downloaded two new books. "I still have to finish the two I'm listening to as well as all the podcasts."

Wahoo! The wait is over!

Sent from my iPod Touch

It is unnerving to be in a constant state of waiting. "Feels like a trap."

I am not a liar. "Well, at least I'm not lying about this."

My camera phone doesn't work well in the dark.

Starting week 3. "C'mon. What the heck?"

Ah man, why can't I transfer OverDrive library books to my iPod anymore? iOS5?

Vigenère cipher

So in my rather passive interest in cryptography, I created a simple project and plan to soon make it available on my site as a web page. You can download the zip file of the Windows Form project here. (Requires Visual Studio 2010).

I got excited as I listened to one of my favorite podcasts: TechStuff from the How Stuff works website. It was on the German WWII cipher called the Enigma. It is of great historical interest. I had to listen to this particular episode twice to catch the name of the modified Polyalphabetic Substitution Cipher they used.

I had to look up the Vigenère cipher to understand how to decrypt messages.

The podcast also refereed to this online crypto museum of which I have not been able to thoroughly check out.

A year ago today, I started working for DMI. "I remember because I thought it was cool that it was 10/20/2010."

Student beggars

Yesterday I saw students pan handling for money to pay for their
education. I thought how curios it all was.

Why did they do it right outside the metro stop next to a University.
I supposed half of the people passing by are probably students as
well. Might have had more success going one stop away.

Maybe not. People might think they were just crazy or homeless.
Desperate to try anything.

"It's for a good cause." one young lady shouted. I doubted it, but
also thought my small donation would go just as far as my donations to
public service (police and fire fighter ) and military collections.

I thought: How do I know you haven't blown through what money you had
allocated to aimlessly feed the hungry education business. Assuming
you were that fortunate at having the funds from the start.

They shouted more stuff that got me thinking. Is this for real or some
kind of study? At length, I didn't donate.

A day later I found myself rationalizing why my donation would not
have made a difference. The country has bigger problems and is
probably the cause of poor education of these students.

You get used to the monstrosity. It makes for a good landmark.

Carlisle house Alexandria

Spent some time over the years at this historic house. I think one of the neatest events was on this Revolutionary War surgeon and the tools of the trade.

How long can I post to Google Buzz before it dies?

When will Posterous enable me to post to Google+?

John Paul Jones

Didn't get to go in because it was Columbus Day?

I admit I have never read a MAD magazine, the Onion newspaper or even
watched Comedy Central.

I missed the sun briefly shining on the rock. I should have waited for a few minutes.

Productive day

There were a few hours of sunshine that I took advantage. See pending photos.

Did a slew of random items: updated to iOS 5, read up on some
SharePoint stuff, HTML5 and what not to name a few.

Went running in the rain which I might do again tomorrow.

Personally I would rather see all this rain go somewhere like Texas.
Even if it did, burgers will probably still cost more in 2012.

Church in Annapolis

The tree was in the shot and would not move.

I passed the Security+ test.

At the request of my employer, I was told I needed to take the exam.
Was further told it was easy, but I hare tests.

I dragged my feet for a while. I read up on a few things and finally
took the exam.

Yahoo! I barely passed. Now I can call myself a security expert. Say
with 6 years of experience?

Downtown Annapolis

I need something to level out the horizon because I obviously can't hold it straight.

More from Annapolis.

It was a very nice Columbus Day.

Check out Bing's image for today. "It's a time lapsed view of Fall."

Went to the United States Navel Acadamy today.

I'd never been there before. It was kind of neat.

So, what makes a cult?

If in part a definition includes non-questioning follows, would
military service qualify?

Went to Afghanistan yesterday

Well, as close as I probably will come. Had dinner at the embassy in DC.
