Go ahead, throw your vote away

I'm honestly not sure who to vote for. I'm thinking about going for pure entertainment value: Barbie Doll or a song and dance show from Obama.

We have a long financial struggle ahead. When Social Security, Medicare, etc. wipe out the remains of any financial stability -- thanks to the Greatest Generation for all the kids they had. Anyway, it'll be fun to have some entertainment from the White House.

I figure if I don't vote or I vote Libertarian, I can't be held responsible for making the "wrong" choice. Personally, I think they are both "wrong". The "right" person for job, is smart enough not to take it.

Painted finger nails on a guy?

I started writing this late last night but feel asleep....

I was at first a bit shocked to see this guy's painted finger nails, but when I thought about it I just shook my hy head. After all, I did go with him to a Hispanic bar of sorts. Turns out it was one place he liked to practice his "pick up" lines.

All I wanted was a McFlurry. The original plan was to go to McDonald's. As a passenger, I had little choice but to accept the change in venue plan.

Wow, this place gets weirder over time. I'm ready for something new. Hopefully soon I will get that change.

Happy Halloween!

Spinning wheels

That's what I feel I'm doing. Oh well, I suppose it is better than nothing. Lousy Matt doesn't respond.

The Holidays should be fun despite the economy and the cold weather. Most likely I'll be staying ok the East Coast.

Got a ride from a good guy yesterday. I wonder if he recently got off a mission. One day I should go to the mid-singles Institute; I just like the younger crowd.

Crazy stuff

I always feel in the middle of the technology curve. I guess the bulk of society is. I can name a few people that know more than I, and there are probably hundreds or thousands more I don't know. Then there are all those that are behind the curve. In and out of the work place.

Always learning new stuff, on;y to find out there is tons more and most of the time, I don't really use what I learn. I sneak some stuff in just because I can.

It's fun to listen to Leo and his many podcasts. They are informative and often hilarious. Everyone has stopped looking at me when i burst out laughing. I guess they think I'm crazy.

Stool hedge CPU

Picked up a stool sample the other day. It was a mini three legged, wooden stool in a bottle. I thought it was funny.

My metro hedge purchase ran out. Well, the $600 worth of metrorail credit is all but used up. I bought it off a friend who left the area for half the price. He probably got it for free, but oh well.

My CPU utilization is under 80%, but just barely. I'm downloading podcasts but this is ridiculous!

The Peterson's rock

I just learned at Stake Conference that while the Peterson's were at the Mesa Arizona Temple Visitor's Center, they helped create the exhibit currently on display at the DC Temple Visitor's Center. I liked the pictures, but now that I know the previous Bishop of the Young Single Adult ward had something to do within, I want to go see it again.

There was a website, reflectionsofchrist.org but it looks like it is moving to a new URL.

I got to see the DVD too. My favorite picture was of John the Baptist and the Savior.

Know your audience

When I stepped through the code yesterday I noticed something curious. Something I barely remembered doing. Something that was the cause of much trouble. At the time, I guess I thought I was being clever, even though I knew it was bad form.

Note to self. Never call on an event handler just because it has some functionality you need.

Anyway, watched the movie W. It left me with a couple impressions. Notably, I think i respect H. W. Bush more the Jr.

Careful, you idiot

Almost broke a lamp trying to shut off my alarm this morning. Going to see a doctor is the last thing I want to do. Unless it is that attractive dermatologist I had a few years back.

Well, just composing a post on Touchy. I need to find more free stuff to listen too. I don't want to spend a lot on audio books.

I sent someone an early morning b-day text message. I hope it woke him up. That was for not getting back to me. I left a message yesterday late afternoon.

Technology: love it; hate it

Been scratching by head for a day now. 24 hours? This seemingly simple programing problem is reaping irritating.

I want to automate my iPod syncing activity. Add new podcasts and delete the ones I listened to. I failed to find that option in iTunes. Maybe there is another software tool.

If I could work from home, that would be fun. I figure I'd get bored after a while; I'd have to get out...

Power Grid game

I played this game with some friends. It was rather fun, although we only played a few rounds due to time restraints. I thought it was interesting some plants are fueled by trash. I never thought about that before. If that is true, I'll be more happy to throw stuff away.

Anyway, I could not help to wonder why one guy was so anxious to hang out with us. Looks like he came straight from work as did I, but he recently got married and seemed in no hurry to get home. I guess hr needed to get away for a time.

I'm not much of a game person. I usually loose, so it's no fun. Well, like this game Acquire, I think it was called, I thought I did pretty well. At the end however, turns out i did not do as well as I thought. So, to me, the journey was better than the end result.

Audio blasts

I have gone through some archives of podcasts, subscribed to new ones, and tried others. My quest for content lead me back to audible.com

I used some info I learned by listening. It was great.

I think I took in more oz. of sugar than hours of audio this last weekend.

Cougar's lose!

The disappointing cougar loss only means the Ute's pending victory will be less impressive. Too many BYU fans out here. Well, most of them did go to the school.

Work's been fairly good the past couple days. I still need to give the wrists a rest.

My neice has sent some good email. For a 7 year old.

Tales from the Pit

"Dang Developers." cursed the ugly, friendless Overlord. "I give them a week, they take a month."

Never having learned the rule of thumb to double time expectations instead of dividing them, it was obvious the beast was upset. Not to mention that it expected everyone to cancel vacations, holidays, weekends, and spend 60+ hours a week in the pit like it does.

"Should have done by now."

The slave driver was of no help. It barely knew anything about the tasks it dished out. The position of slave driving was pretty much self proclaimed because of seniority or time spent in the pit.

The old days of throwing crap at a web site and praying it works are gone. Or should be anyway. It's no wonder they are in the mess they are in with rewrites. The underlying database needs serious architecture work. Any redesign on a shotty foundation is risky at best.

It is supposed that in time one gets numb to the lack of best practices. One should kneel and say "Yes Master. I will take a dump on this web page and pray it works."

Short week; not short enough

Looking forward to the weekend already. Monday was a Holiday and I had some fun. It's only Wednesday but it seems like I have a whole week in the slave pit. I like where I work and what I do. The people I work for? That's a different question.

Not sure what I have going on this weekend, just as long as I'm not by the slave driver I'll be just fine.

Should activate my Monster account. I'm not sure how much more I can take.

Risk taking

I need to live it up, and I try.

Jumped on a segway for two hours. Thoght I'd wreck at least once. Almost did 3 or 4 times.

Looking at going kyacking. Rafting, conuing, and even ride a jet ski freaked me out. Looking back on it, I'm glad I did it. I also want to go hang gliding and parachuting.

Found old friends

It feels like I have lived many lives when resources of memory are rediscovered. Comparing myself to old selves it is often hard to find simularities.

I kind of want to grow my hair out for a time. Be a punk... Maybe not.

St. Louis might be next spot. Why? Start a new self?

Navy day

It was a very nice day out so after a short run, lounging around, and lunch, I figured I needed to get out. All my housemates were out! I decided to go into the District. The moment I got off Archives stop, I heard singing. It was Navy Day. It was also Fire Safty week too, but my local station didn't look like it was too setup for any event when I ran by it.

Anyway, talked to a couple sailors, snipers, and whomever else. Got to handle a few firearms, get on a river boat, in an MRAP, and a few other cool stuff.it wash fun.

Watched a football game at some people's house. Got pizza, drinks

BA huh? Bad management.

A friend is leaving the company. Good for him. No longer can the slave driver micro manage him. Being replaced with a good guy. First impressions question if he is not somewhat of a brown nose. Oh well, I got my own problems.

The market continues to fall. Well, the Dow anyway.

Where is the positive note? General Conference for October 2008 is online! Started to catch up on what I missed. Too bad you can't 'stream' audio and surf at the same time. Maybe I should try a different approach.

Do I work for Nazis?

They promise the world and think I'm some kind of code machine or monkey. It's not a matter of mindlessly grinding out code. It takes time, and I plan on taking it. If it doesn't meet their deadline, they can fix it.

I want to do it right the first time. Especially if I have to maintain it. They complain because some apps are unmanageable/

It's not my job to educate them on any subject. Tell me what they want and get out of the way until I get it done. I'm not a monkey, I'm a professional. That's right, if they every stepped out of the isolated world they live in, they might notice many things.

Headless Chickens

I like to be busy, but busy work is not what I want to do. Good design work takes time. Running around like chickens with their heads cut off is very inefficient.

I broke my iPod shuffle docking unit last night. Now I need to get a new one. Just when I caught up on my podcasts. Oh well. I could start using my Touch, but I'd rather not.

Disney World provided the stress free get away I needed. But I guess, i always try not to stress out.

Thrown under a bus

All these silly phrases I keep hearing. Silly for the use of the term and the reason to use it. Real professional no doubt. Maybe they should just stay out of the street.

Anyway, I'm not looking forward to going back to work. I had too much fun in DisneyWorld. It was fun to watch my parents go from one place to another without consulting a map. If i ever lead an expedition, I'd stumble around and have fun but I might not get the same adventure... obviously.

Anyway, best time of year to go. I think the longest we ever waited was 20 minutes. And that was probably for lunch. I'll have to post some fun stuff that went on.
