Day of love

Well, kind of. I got some happy hearts from my niece. Spent some time with some friends. Cleaned the kitchen a bit. Started an evening walk but ran home because it started to rain a bit.

I was hoping it was not going to rain although I could smell that it already had or currently was somewhere nearby.

Started reading someone's blog. She is so much more entertaining than myself, but she writes extremely long paragraphs.

Agency and Stewardship

The other day a coworker tried to explain to another coworker that I did not drink Coffee, Tea, ans Coke.

"What?" I interjected. "I drink Coke all the time."

He then started to look somewhat shocked and judgemental. He then claimed he had a friend who did not drink Coke. Now, it wasn't clear whether this friend claimed it was Church policy or if it was just my coworker's interpretation.

I tried to explain that it is not a clear cut "ruling" like that on coffee or tea, but I felt I was back pedaling. I wanted to smack him for his judgemental stare, but I knew his judgement is about as worthless as a two legged stool.

Anyway, later I thought of a good argument. And here is some of it.

There are two things wrong with this conversation. First of all, I believe I know my religion better than you. In this case, it seems your understanding comes from a second hand source. This would be considered hear-say and inadmissible in Court. For all intensive purposes, I dare say it is inadmissible in this conversation.

Second, we are talking about a point from the Word of Wisdom - which is a law of health. Which is a small part of Church doctrine. Why are we hung up on that?

I did mention that you could go to [heck] for worse offenses. Assuming drinking Coke is in fact an offense.

I thought about going off from there about supporting arguments: eating meet sparingly, insane New Testament rules to keep the Law of Moses, being compelled in all things, feasibility to define everything you can and can't do and passing off personal interpretations as Church doctrine/policy on others... but it would be overkill.

We can do it? Yes we can.

I guess I was wrong about the origin of the phrase "Yes we can". Well, I was close.

In my days travels, I came across the WWII poster. It said "We can do it".

Same thing?

Historic day

Is not everyday somewhat historic?

I did not go into the District but I "ran" around most of the day. It was cold enough for me.

Well, I learned about the Ford carrier class among other things.

Cheers.

Guantanamo Closing

Sounds like a winner of an idea. Why not release all the prisoners and shut down DoD and live in a fantasy world of peace and love? Some politicians need to pull their heads out.

There is a reason why people should not know what is going on with enemies of the country. I hope there are the Jason Borne types out there that gather information and what not to protect this nation by whatever means.

People get to uptight over things. If this was a perfect world, I might agree but everyone who flies know it only takes one bad apple to mess up things for everyone else. I hate taking my shoes off to board a plane.

Why do I even try?

I slid down the stair case and spilled some food. Socks don't provide much traction.

Of course people were nice about it, but why do I even try to make a good impression. Nobody gives and rarely do misperceptions change.

I guess I do the same at times.

Today was good for the most part. Spent lunch and Happy Hour at Capitol Grill with coworkers. It was fun.

Columbia State

So if the District of Columbia becomes a state, will it change it's name to State of Columbia? What about the postal code? SC is already taken. I guess they could use CS because CO and CA are already taken. Maybe CL.

Anyway, what about the flag? 51 stars?

What's next?

Sounds really lame and gay, but it would be change. Or would it? Government spending for little or no value.

To the future

Unless the new president has some magic, to pull out of his rear end, I seriously doubt the financial situation will not change. Well, change will come over the next few months at best. Next few years, is more like it.

What to do with NASA? Keep funding it.

The Internet for everyone plan I heard about in my very passive political interests, sounds good to me. Better than some bail out plan for evil MBAs.

Yes they Can

For some reason several streets in DC were shut down. I only saw the one by the metro stop. My coworkers were talking this morning about having to add to the already crowded metro if they can't drive to work.

I blame the new president and his borrowed slogan from WWII. Can they shut down the city streets like thier plead for statehood?

Yes they can.

I got a good laugh when I chimed into the conversation.

Stole lunch today

As I half heartily listen to this free audio book on music from the 60s, I often find myself wondering who really would enjoy this book. I know I'm one that passively pursues music. There are a bunch of songs and artists I like. Had I an iPod or satellite radio when I was a kid, would I have spent my grade money on tapes or CDs?

I stole some tapes once. My stupidity got us caught.

I also felt somewhat uncomfortable with all the sound waves going through me. I thought it was silly to see people go crazy while listening to stuff even though, in private, I do the same.

Anyway, possibly all that and because I found it a waste of time to find a good song on the radio, are other factors to why I'm no fan boy.

What's next?

The more I work with SharePoint, the more frustrating it gets. Everything I do gets extended feature-wise. If I really felt against the wall, I'd be more worried or negatively motivated.

Anyway, everyday the dynamics at work changes. For good, unlike my last job. Actually it didn't change much at all. Certain people were always upset regardless of what was going on.

Well, that was my rant for the day. I enjoy my job and the associations.

Tech notes

I saw a Duracell memory card today. It always fascinates me to see "new" products.

I think it is time for me to "recycle" my many passwords. Well, probably just those not in the Password Safe. And change my non secure default password. I guess it is bad form to comment on security policy changes.

Anyway, listened to TWIT live on the free iPhone app. I also watched my first video podcast. I admit the other month I went to YouTube for the fist time ever. Well, I have seen videos played by others from that site... Or clicked on links sent me.

So many other new stuff to tell. Actually I lost my train of thought. ;)

Oh yeah, no more CAPTCHA on these posts?

I laugh when I hear people get bent out of shape because a site is not designed to thief liking or something changes on the site. I guess I'm just used to changes. Besides, what can I do about it? Crying about it doesn't help.

I also detest direction from upper management to make "new" applications look and act like previous versions when there are more intuitve or even standard ways to do things then the original designs. I wonder who's inteligence should be insulted.

Hard truth: Life goes on

I just finished watching a documentary on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Like with almost everything that I consume, I want to tell someone about it. I believe this the motive for all forms of "propaganda". To get others to feel the same way as you did or do.

One solider lamented that when he tells people he was over there, they don't appreciate it the same. Or how the media or news briefly acknowledges the ongoing conflict.

That's just it. Everything is a conflict and everyone is going through one or another everyday. The most prevalent one is the one at the moment. And everyone almost wants everyone else to share thief grief or pleasure in some shape or form.

Environmental Lawsuit?

Just for kicks I started listening to the provocative 60 minute podcast. They were talking about Saudi Arabia's oil industry. They mentioned a new facility was being constructed or already completed, that will pump sea water into the earth to get the oil out?

So, not only are "we" going to add to the already problematic air pollution issue but "we" are throwing away lots of water (at this said facility) to do so? Sounds like a double whammy.

Maybe someone could profit from this by filing some kind of lawsuit.

Cars and gas

Real quick....

I watched this movie last night. I liked the little feature about the mystery light. It was funny.

I like the detail spent on lighting, shadows, and sound. So much work goes into these movies.

I've never been a NASCAR fan. Never had any interest. Looked kind of boring. Then as I watched, I thought how much gas is wasted on this form of entertainment? More than the average consumer I suppose.

Legacy of Ashes

Should have been called a negative history of the CIA. It seemed to focus on all the failures. I don't recall it even mentioning the SR-71. I breezed through it so I might have missed a small reference to it.

It was interesting, but I was hoping for something more on positive aspects.

What will the future hold for the Intelligence community?

Christmas flight canceled

OK, not really, but it was an option. It would have required I throw money away for nothing. Why do they charge to cancel flights anyway? Anything to take your money i guess.

Should have called the post "Why I hate flying cross country, especially for Christmas.". I hate looking for deals. I hate "throwing away" countless hundreds. This time I also used a bunch of SkyMiles to bring the cost down a bit. I hate "throwing away" more when I mess up the itinerary with everyone else's schedule.

And for what? I can imagine many of the senses that will take place before they happen. So, for a warm meal, a place to stay and to be around people I love and presume the same.

Well, the money is gone. Now I need to work up the desire to get on the plane. I hate being packed in like a sardine. I hate those dang screaming kids... etc. I'm packing my good headphones and a book on my toy.

Kite runner book

I was told it was a kids book. I'm not sure it is appropriate for kids. It's easy to judge when you can emotionally detach oneself from the story. Trying a new book. So far, this Orson Scott Card book seems kind of lame.

I need a good laugh. I'm going to listen to the Windows Weekly podcast. It's cold out so I did not tre4k out to the annual Turkey Bowl. I'd have to trek out of there to get to a play at 2:30.

I then would like to see BYU loose to U of U. There are a couple of places I can go, just haven't decided where yet.

Getting set up

I kind of feel like it right now. Why? Past experiences? One goal from working on a contract was to fortify myself somewhat when the world decides to screw me like in troubled financial times like these.

At another job, I had few reasons I wanted to stay at the place. One was the comardary until one day I was told that I would stap work to join the guys at lunch. I got into the habbit of taking an early lunch! I guess I don't need to do that anymore.

Weeks later, I was told by the same that we should go to lunch. Of course I agrreed but I wasn't dumb enough to step in that nor did I feel it was my obligation to publish the interface to get me to go to lunch again.

Who's complaining?

Granted, the truth hurts. I only explained what to expect. Throwing resources at a problem doesn't fix it unless you know what the problem is.

Trying to sell some stuff on Craig's list. This time I had pictures and am getting several responses.

Another cold one. Might go to the Library with Touchy seeing how I could get on a couple wireless networks yesterday. Probably not the most secure thing to do.

Had a very little b-day party at the house. Tonight i shall venture out to see this DVD a friend produced for the Church.
